About
Isn't it exciting that fiction creates an escape while providing experiences you couldn't have in any other way? Stories stretch our emotions and imaginations, which is healthy for our minds and so much fun.
I started my story telling journey in acting and directing. The biggest takeaway was this: when you surprise yourself you surprise your audience.
Enroute to studying film making in college, I had an accident that changed my outlook. At 1:30 in the morning my left hand was caught in the stainless steel rollers of a pizza machine. I was 18. Fired for being injured, with a paralyzed left hand that had to be held over my heart for months, the single question that filled my mind was 'what's good about this?' I decided to learn to draw using Yes album covers as instruction. I decided to learn to draw so I could create the characters and locations in my fantasy world.
I've been told never to admit this but I walked away from a good job producing television in LA. The hours, 6am until midnight - for the duration. It was obvious to me the cost was too high. I wanted to raise kids and develop my painted fantasy world and it's characters. (www.barbaraferrier.com).
That's where the Kalendra Chronicles novels began. I created portraits of the characters and locations, then wrote hundreds of 15 minute free writes - to develop the fictional world.
I hope you enjoy these fantasy novels that explore our shared humanity by asking the simple question, 'what if what you believe is what you receive?'
